Thanked 520 Times in 186 Posts. Slightly off topic, but I've recently been experiencing a strange phenomenon with a less than 1-1/2 years old GE refrigerator. For the first 1-1/4 years, the temps in the upper frig section were rock solid at 35 deg F. The upper section is set at 35 deg F, and I have a thermometer in it to keep a check on it.

The outside unit to my AC is inside a corner of my birdcage. As an experiment, I stretched a piece of awning about 4 ft above the unit to shade the unit. I bought 2 cheap thermometers and placed one on the center motor section of the AC and the other about 4 ft away in the direct sun.

I posted last month my A/C thermostat is 5° off reading higher than temp recorded by 2 digital thermometers and one analog. A/C thermostat set at 83° whole home is 78, 47% humidity. If you are seeing a difference between another thermometer and the thermostat reading, calibration of the HVAC thermostat may be off or accidentally set incorrectly.

But, my thermostat is always set on 78 degrees and, on some days, the outside temperature has exceeded 100 degrees, with no increase in the inside temperature. So, my system is able to maintain at least a 22 degree difference between the outside and inside temperatures. I have several outside and inside thermometers, so I know this is correct.

Use a 12” length of weed trimmer line. Push it up the water tube on the outside of the door were you fill your glass. Leave enough length of line out to pull and push it when needed. Next time it freezes up, pull and push line loose, then pull out, and run water by filling a glass. Reinsert the line for next time.

Thanks. I had that issue over a year ago and they replaced all the breakers involved. There is a different issue with refrigerators plugged into GFCI outlets----it appears that the compressor can cause a slight power surge when it kicks on, which can be above the 4.5 ma threshold of most GFCIs.

Issues with owning a home in TV if the owner is a snowbird.
Annual expenses run about $14k. Includes taxes, bond, amenities, utilities, insurance, internet with streaming tv, and yard maintenance. It does not include a mortgage or a pool. It also doesn't include increased utility cost caused by the renters. The $14k is close to what it would cost if it sat vacant all year.
